Vincent: Starry Starry Night book

Hello! I wanted to share with you this sweet new book I received as a review copy. This book is so tender and lovely and has a fantastic social-emotional connection.

This book was inspired by the song by Don McLean.

Starry, starry night

Paint your palette blue and gray

Look out on a summer’s day

With eyes that know the darkness in my soul.

(Don McLean, “Vincent”)

Book cover of "Vincent: Starry Starry Night" featuring a child in a garden filled with sunflowers and irises, capturing the essence of Van Gogh.

The book is called Vincent: Starry Starry Night (Amazon Affiliate links used. I receive a small commission at no extra cost to you) and it is, of course, about the famous artist Vincent Van Gogh.

Child sitting on grass, looking at cloud shapes in the sky. Text reads, "No one understood why, but Vincent saw things differently than other children, as if living within a book titled 'Starry Starry Night.'

Van Gogh struggled with mental illness his whole life and the book talks about how Van Gogh felt sadness and feelings of aloneness his whole life.

Illustrated book spread of a child admiring a starry night sky, inspired by Van Gogh's style. Text: "Where others saw darkness, Vincent saw light." This moment echoes the essence of "Starry Starry Night," capturing the wonder and magic hidden in every twinkling star.
A child in a field of golden wheat under a swirling blue sky with birds; text reads, "Where others saw light, Vincent found inspiration—Starry Starry Night.

He was still able to see light and beauty in the world and used his artmaking to express himself.

A child painting colorful swirls with a brush, reminiscent of Vincent's Starry Starry Night, is accompanied by descriptive text on the opposite page, much like illustrations in a book.

I showed this book to our school counselor and she loved it as well. We thought it would be great for students who may be feeling these hard emotions to be able to see themselves in a children’s book and see how artists use art to express their feelings.

A child paints a starry night scene indoors, capturing the essence of Vincent's masterpiece with brushes and chalks. Beside an open window, they recreate "Starry Starry Night" as if guided by a storybook whispering tales of the artist's genius under the twinkling stars.
A beautifully illustrated book page depicts a person seated amidst swirling, colorful landscapes inspired by Vincent's Starry Starry Night, with a captivating text passage to the right.

I also love how the book replicates Van Gogh’s style and gives nods to his famous works of art. The illustrations are vivid and gorgeous. This is a truly beautiful and heartfelt book!

Illustration of a boy sitting by flowers, gazing at a brick wall with a quote about finding joy through art. Inspired by Vincent's "Starry Starry Night," his imagination transforms the wall into a book brimming with colorful tales.
