My Favorite Art Journaling Supplies

Art supplies and colorful drawings scattered around the phrase "SUPPLIES" on a white background, ideal for art journaling enthusiasts.

I thought I would share with you some of my favorite art journaling supplies. These are supplies I use for my own personal art journaling, not with my students. Many are higher quality (more expensive) for more advanced artists (like you!).

First you will need an art journal. I prefer to use a book with thick, sturdy pages because I like to use a lot of paint and collage in my art journal. Here is a great book from Strathmore called the Visual Journal, Mixed Media. (Amazon affiliate links are used in this post at no extra cost to you. The small amount of money earned from these commissions goes towards maintaining my blog. You will want to do your own price comparisons as pricing changes sometimes, especially on Amazon. I also shop at Michaels, Dick Blick and Nasco for personal art supplies. We do most of our shopping at Amazon and School Specialty for school art supplies).

Other sketchbooks that I like include:

Several watercolor paint sets, from brands like Crayola and Jack Richeson, arranged on a white surface alongside other art journaling supplies.

Assorted pens including Faber Castell, Micron, Copic, brush pens, and Sharpies are arranged neatly on a white surface—ideal for your art journaling supplies.
A cluster of colorful paint markers, including Posca and Molotow brands, arranged vertically.

Uni-Posca Paint Pens and Molotow Paint Markers

White paint pens from Uniball Signo and Molotow brands, favorite supplies for art journaling, displayed together on a plain background.

Various brands of colored pencils, including Soucolor and Crayola, are displayed in boxed and cylindrical packaging. These are favorite supplies for art journaling enthusiasts.

Soucolor Colored Pencils. I can’t seem to find a vendor for Crayola Premium colored pencils anymore, but I have also been enjoying the Jolly Thick Colored Pencils.

Lately I’ve also been enjoying using oil pastels of different kinds to add embellishments and marks on my pages.

Art Journaling Supplies: Colorful markers, unicorn stickers, and galaxy-patterned tapes with "Fun Tapes and Stickers" text above.

You can find a lot of fun Washi tapes and stickers on Amazon and at other craft stores.

An open scrapbook with colorful pages, featuring various stickers, stamps, and cut-out images of birds, plants, hot air balloons—an inviting canvas for art journaling and your favorite supplies.

Thrift stores and book sales are great places to get old books to find interesting pictures. I have bought interesting postage stamps on Ebay. Hope these links help you find some new and fun art supplies to try out. Please let me know if you have any questions!

Assorted sticker and ephemera books, perfect for your favorite art journaling supplies, displayed against a blue background.

December 2024 update: I also took my chances in ordering some fun stickers and supplies from two unknown scrapbooking stores on Facebook. I ordered from Journal Say and Soto Studios. They had so many cheap, irresistible, amazing stickers and papers. They were delivered from overseas and shipping took at least 2-3 weeks to get to my house. But, I was very happy with all of the fun and colorful stickers I received from there. The holographic and transparent stickers were gorgeous! I would be cautious ordering anything words, because the quote stickers I got were quite ridiculous with really bad translations or AI quotes, I’m not sure, but they didn’t make sense! Overall, I will definitely order from them again, given the price, selection and overall quality. (I’m not affiliated with them in any way.)

Here are a few of my Art Journal pages. Enjoy!

A colorful notebook cover with abstract designs, patterns, a blue feather, and phrases like "peace within" and "shine."
A vibrant abstract painting with various colorful shapes, patterns, and doodles on a two-page spread.
Hand-painted colorful text on a decorative background: "All the colors I am inside have not yet been invented."
Abstract artwork with "Hope" text, featuring blue, purple, and black shapes, stars, and patterns on a bright background.
