I got this idea from my son’s afterschool program… they were making these one day a couple weeks ago and I loved them some much I decided to use the idea for my own classroom right away! My son’s after school program is great, they are always doing fun art projects and they have a wonderful new facility. I would link to them, but for personal privacy reasons I hesitate to put that info online. I did some searching and saw a similar project online and we used these same steps for the spider web. We used cardboard circles for the base and since these were 1st graders, I applied the hot glue ahead of time for the kids. If I were doing this project with older kids, I would probably have them use a regular bottle of Elmer’s glue for the spider web.

In the version I found online, they made paper spiders, which would work too. I wanted the kids to have a little 3-D experience, so we used Crayola Model Magic. The spider was made by forming a body with black Model Magic and inserting 8 pieces of blackpipe cleaners for the legs. We also glued on googly eyes with Elmer’s glue.
