Good news! My proposal to lead a hands-on workshop at the National Art Education Association convention was accepted. The convention is from March 26-28 and you can sign up on the NAEA website. My workshop is titled: “Art Journaling for Personal Meaning and Creative Development.”
Relax with art journaling and leave with multiple creative techniques you can use immediately in your classroom. Explore vision boards, collage, watercolor doodling, word play and the art of chance.
I’m super excited to lead this workshop! Each participant will receive an art journal and some supplies to get started with the various techniques and journaling prompts that will be highlighted in this presentation. This hands-on studio time will give participants the time, space and materials to begin their journey of self-discovery and reflection through the use of art journaling.
Art journaling is a great way for busy art teachers to revive their creative practice, meditate, get in the “flow” state and to spark ideas for their own teaching practice. Participants will leave with samples of their own journaling and many handouts and resources. While these techniques are perfect for personal art journaling, they are also easily translated to the elementary or middle school classroom for students to try in their own journals, or to use as stand-alone projects. I already have some art supply donations lined up from Nasco and I’m hoping to get some other companies to join in to make this a truly awesome, hands-on experience to try out some new materials and techniques.
Why did I decide to do a workshop on art journaling?
Last year at the convention, my favorite workshops were the ticketed hands-on sessions where we were in a room with a smaller group of people and had the opportunity to PLAY and recharge! I decided art journaling is what I know best and do the most, so I thought I would share some fun ideas and give convention-goers a chance to relax and play.

Wow! I didn’t realize it was a *ticketed* event. That’s even more big time!
Great!
