“Not Just a Scribble” Creatures

In my last blog post, I told you about a children’s book called I’m Not Just a Scribble.

The author, Diane Alber, gave us a behind the scenes interview about her process and her future books.

After reading this book, some of my students in grades K-3 created these cute scribble creatures with BIG personalities! (The one on the top left in this first picture was my example.)

Childlike drawings of colorful, whimsical creatures; some look scared or surprised, set against playful backgrounds. Text: "Not Just a Scribble Creatures.

It was a simple process.  First, they colored a scribble in a round shape.  Then, they used the eye and mouth stickers that I bought from Diane.

A child drawing colorful stick figures with facial expressions, surrounded by markers, crayons, and stickers on a table, brings their imaginative creatures to life.

The students used thin pens and crayons to draw legs, arms and background details.  I love these facial features… such great expressions!
