Printmaking with Apples: Pumpkin Jack-o-Lanterns

Collage showcasing printmaking with pumpkin prints made using apples. Features apple and pumpkin images, and a child drawing Jack-o-Lantern faces on the prints.

This was a fun introduction to printmaking.  I did this project with Kindergartners.  I got the idea from this image on Pinterest.

I read them The Pumpkin Book by Gail Gibbons.  I cut apples in half and the students dipped them into orange paint and stamped them on their paper.

Nine orange paint stamps resembling Pumpkin Jack-o-Lanterns on white paper arranged in a 3x3 grid pattern.

The next art class, I provided them with printouts of images I found online of jack-o-lanterns and the students used markers to draw faces and stems on the pumpkins.

To color the grass, we held peeled green crayons on their side and rubbed it around the background.

Child's artwork features seven orange pumpkin jack-o-lanterns, each with different expressions, on a white sheet of paper.
