Peanut Butter and Jellyfishes Book

I want to show you a beautiful book I discovered called Peanut Butter and Jellyfishes: A Very Silly Alphabet Book by Brian P. Clearly.

The book was illustrated by Betsy E. Snyder and I think the pictures are fantastic.  The style of the book is reminiscent of Eric Carle’s painted paper collages.

Two alphabet books titled "Peanut Butter and Jellyfishes" and "ABC Book" on a white surface.

Children's book page showcasing the letters I and J with colorful illustrations of ice cream, jars, and jellyfishes, featuring animals. Illustrated book pages showing a quail and a raccoon rafting on a raspberry river, with rainbow and trees in the background. The whimsical scene makes readers feel like they've stepped into a vibrant story where even jellyfishes might join the adventure. A children's book page showing a llama riding a motorbike with the text: "L is for llama" and "M begins motorbike." A jar of peanut butter sits on the ground nearby. Illustrated page showing animals on bikes: kangaroos kissing, and kittens in kilts. Text reads, "K...kickstands are missing." Jellyfishes drift nearby, adding a whimsical touch to the scene.

Aren’t they beautiful?  On each page of the book are pictures that feature things that start with one letter of the alphabet.  My first grade students created an ABC book by drawing a letter of the alphabet to be the focus of the page.  Then, they filled the rest of the page with things that started with that letter.

Alphabet-themed drawings with letters D, P, T, and F featuring colorful illustrations in colored pencil and crayon. Look closer to find playful Peanut Butter and Jellyfishes swimming among the letters.

Six colorful hand-drawn alphabet letters (G, J, S, E, Y, A) featuring words and images for each letter. For example, 'J' might have an illustration of jellyfishes.

The students were happy with the book and they had fun brainstorming ideas for their drawings.  When I do this project again, I will probably have them make collages with colorful and painted papers to make their words.  I was worried that it might be too hard for them, but I think next time we will try!
