During the month of December, our Student Council is collecting canned and boxed food items for a local food pantry.
Last year we had a “chain of giving” theme, where students could attach a colored chain (designated by grade level) to a long paper chain that traveled around the school.
We wanted to have another theme this year that would encourage kids to bring in items. The principal and some of our students came up with the idea of a “Blizzard of Hope.” As students brought in canned goods, they could put a large snowflake on the bulletin board. The bulletin board was a city scene mural that some of my classes created. For each item they brought in, they could also put a small snowflake sticker somewhere on the city scene.
There are two student council kids who arrive to school early every day to pass out snowflakes and remind students to bring in items.
These were the pictures of the bulletin board before big snowflakes were added.
It is slowly, but surely filling up with more snowflakes. We have a lot of food collected already, so I know people are donating, but maybe some are forgetting to get snowflakes to put up! I will show you a picture of the bulletin board when it has a blizzard.
