Clay Pinch Pot Monsters with 2nd Graders

Four colorful clay pinch pot monsters with exaggerated features. Text: "Clay Pinch Pot Monsters" in the center, great for 2nd graders.

This is a tried and true clay lesson for kids.  Who doesn’t love cute monsters?

The 2nd graders started by making pinch pots.  This handout shows you how.

Turn the pinch pot on its side and add eyes, teeth, ears, tongues, feet and other details.  We painted ours with acrylic and tempera paints.

This colorful clay art model of a creature features a blue body, orange eyes on top, and an open purple mouth with sharp silver teeth. A colorful, abstract clay pinch pot sculpture resembling a wide-mouthed creature with large, black eyes and small feet.

    Hi Marcia

These look great. I especially love the one with the teeth!

Do you ever add any sort of gloss to your painted clay pieces?

Hello, thanks for sharing your ideas. I have 20 girl scouts I will be making these with….any idea how much clay (lbs) I would need? Thanks!

I'd love to hear your thoughts!
