American Landscape Paintings with 3rd and 4th Grade

A watercolor painting of an American landscape with a tree, grassy field, mountains, clear blue sky, and a river in the foreground.

Just a few quick pictures of American landscape paintings that the third and fourth graders created.  A few summers ago I took a watercolor painting class which was very useful.  I used some of the techniques I learned in that class to teach them about how to use the fan brush and sponges to create texture.  The kids looked at photographs of landscapes from America and they learned about the Hudson River school of painters.

A vibrant abstract watercolor painting featuring blue, green, and orange hues resembling an American landscape.

Well done Marcia, these landscapes are terrific. I’m a painter of English landscape, just surfing for fun. I get so fed up of the pretentious rubbish passing as professional landscape painting. I clicked this image because i found them interesting, not knowing it was school art. I’m not surprised though, kids just do it naturally. I love the cloud paintings too. Art is a core subject you’re right – few agree – please don’t push the selling art thing though.
    Good luck.

    • Roy, thanks so much for your comments! They mean a lot to me. I’m curious why you say don’t push the selling art thing, especially since you are an artist. I don’t ever really talk about that with my young students, unless they ask me how artists make money.. then I talk about all the different careers in art.

  2. Delayed reaction here – I’m sure you’ve got it right. Your given your students a chance to discover painting and they obviously love it, and that’s the main thing. Make art because you have a passion and need to get it out – if someone wants to buy it, fine, but don’t make to sell. That’s all i mean. Roy
