Art Using Train Tracks

Wooden train tracks and drawing activities. Blank outline drawing of train tracks colored in vibrant patterns and artful designs.

In my last blog post, I reviewed the book Old Tracks, New Tricks.  It is a super cute and creative book.

Colorful characters made of wooden tracks with 'Old Tracks, New Tricks' book and text: 'Book Review & Art Activity'. Discover the magic of trains in this imaginative children's book.

Wooden train characters converse, a train crashes into blocks, followed by a "CRASH! BANG!" in the final frame.

The book itself is good for up to about 1st or 2nd grade, in my opinion.  The kids at my school saw me drawing this train track picture and some of the 3rd graders wanted to try it.  I’m thinking 1st through 3rd grade might be best for this art project.  I will test it with the Kindergartners and let you know if they are able to do it.

The steps are simple and fun!  Lay the train tracks one at a time on to your paper.  Trace lightly with pencil.

Continue connecting and tracing train tracks on top of the ones you’ve already drawn.

Use crayons, colored pencils or markers to color in your designs.

Colorful puzzle pieces interlocked, featuring various patterns like stars, polka dots, zigzags, and stripes on a white background.

Materials I used include:
