Art Project for Chicka Chicka Boom Boom

Three children's art projects of trees with colorful letters climbing up them. Text at the bottom reads "Chicka Chicka Boom Boom.

At the beginning of the year when Kindergartners are learning how to write their letters I like to read the book Chicka Chicka Boom Boom  and teach an art lesson using the alphabet.  Most of the kids have already read this book, but it is a quick read and has a great rhythm.  The kids do love the book.  If you want to get a laugh though, read the one-star reviews on Amazon, lol.

Three paper crafts of trees with letters wrapped around or hanging from them, inspired by the children's book "Chicka Chicka Boom Boom," on white backgrounds.Three cups of paint (two yellow, one green) and a paintbrush on a white canvas on a wooden table make for an exciting Art Project.

Start by painting a paper with various shades of green.

A hand uses a yellow plastic scraper to create patterns in green and yellow paint on a white surface.

Use paint scrapers to scrape in texture.

Cut-out brown paper hand shapes and a pencil on a white surface, with more brown paper in the background.

Trace your hand and arm on brown paper to create a tree trunk.

Cut out and glue on leaf shapes.

Colorful foam letters "A," "B," "C," and "D" on green painted paper background.

Add foam alphabet stickers to your picture.  Use markers to add extra details to your picture if you’d like.  The ironic thing is when I hung up the pictures, the foam stickers were old and not sticky enough, so many of the letters fell off the trees and landed in piles on top of the lockers.  Ba ha ha!

A vibrant art project features a paper tree with multicolored letters attached to its branches, displayed against a white background. When I teach this project again, I will let the kids have more freedom.  I am reflecting on my curriculum and wanting to allow for more individual choices within the curriculum.  Maybe I will have them paint with various colors and use the letter stickers and painted papers to make a collage in their own way.

What about you?  Do you have a unique project for the book Chicka Chicka Boom Boom?

** I finished a new edition of my Art Journaling with Kids E-Zine, which I will tell you more about later, but it is available in my shop. **

This is a fantastic project!! Every child at my daughters Daycare Centre LOVES this book! Over & over & over, in each Levels ClassRoom throughout! I am so excited to find this activity and wonder if you wouldn’t mind if I sent them this idea? It will be great exploration of paint textures and letters for the older ones, for the Summer Learning fun 😀 Thank You SOO much for sharing this!! Happy to have found your website here too.

I'd love to hear your thoughts!
