I found this post in my draft folder. I had written the post and then it was right before Covid hit, so somehow I missed posting it! This is one of my go-to sub plans. Use up the paper in your scrap bin and make a picture just using cut paper shapes. All you need to do to prepare is leave the scrap box available and provide a few examples. Hi! One day when I was sick I left a sub lesson plan for my students to design their own tree houses. I printed out examples of tree house drawings for inspiration, like these here and here. There is also this resource by Art Sub Lessons which has many pictures of real tree houses for inspiration. Valentine’s Day is coming! Are you looking for a fun heart project idea to try with your kids? This challenge for my 3rd graders was to design 9 different hearts. A hand-drawn maze titled "Dragon Quest" features a dragon in the center and a wizard at both the start and end points, creating an engaging labyrinth adventure.

When I was gone on my trip to New York for the conference, one of the sub plans I left was to draw a maze. The instructions were to draw a maze lightly with pencil, then color it as they wished. Colorful abstract shapes, including stars, circles, and triangles with wavy patterns on a white background create the visual of the longest line.

Here is a beautiful, awesome lesson plan I found from Kids Artists, called the Longest Line. I used it for a sub plan when I was gone one day. The kids loved it!

A colorful abstract drawing with zigzag lines, dots, and squiggles in blue, red, black, and orange on white paper. It serves as an excellent Easy LINE LESSON for Kindergarten students.

This is an easy line lesson you can do tomorrow or with a substitute teacher.Step one: Draw lines in pencil across the page. Make as many types of lines as you can… wavy, zigzag, straight, loopy, dotted, dashed, etc.Step two: Outline the lines in black marker.Step three: Color in other areas with marker or crayon.

A child's drawing depicts someone at 30, with family and work, and at 70, using a cane and standing alone.

On Wednesday I had a substitute teacher. I left this drawing assignment for the 2nd graders to complete. Divide your paper in half. On one side, draw what you imagine your life to look like when you are 30 years old. On the other side, imagine how your body will look when you are 70. What will your life be like then?
