Patchwork Animals– Kindergarten
Patchwork Animals To connect again with literature, the kindergartners read the book Elmer, by David McKee. Using squares of colored paper and patterned paper, they are making their own patchwork animal. The objectives of this project are to 1) Define, identify, and use a variety of patterns and colors in a collage 2) Show unity by using similar colors in a picture and 3) Create works of art inspired by stories and themes.
Rainbow Fish
Rainbow Fish by Kindergartners First, we read the book Rainbow Fish. Then, the kids drew pictures of fish. Next, we colored them using neon crayons and regular crayons. Color REALLY hard and thickly. Demonstrate this to the children so they see how to color darkly. Next, paint with watercolor on the background, to fill in the water. The paint will resist. We used these watercolors. Water was added to blend the colors to make a watercolor effect.
Kindergarten Penguins
The kindergartners are studying penguins in their classroom, so we made penguins out of model magic modelling compound. One trick to get the parts to stick better is to use just a bit of regular hand lotion on your hands to make the model magic just a bit softer and squishier. Cool Hands, Warm Heart.. Kindergarten
Cool Hands, Warm Heart The kindergartners traced their hands and colored them with cool colors. They drew a heart and colored it with warm colors. COOL COLORS: Remind us of cool things, like the ocean. Blues, greens, and purples are cool colors. WARM COLORS: Remind us of warm things, like the sun. Reds, oranges and yellows are warm colors.
Native American Shields
To complement their study of Native Americans, the kindergartners made symbolic shields. The shields (by the Plains Indians) were used in battle and they believed the symbols on the shields had magical powers to protect them. They were often adorned with symbolic items, such as bones, feathers and other natural objects.
Clay Hearts
Easy Clay Hearts for Kindergarten This project teaches how to roll coils and basic glazing techniques. 1. Step one, Demonstrate rolling coils.2. Form the coils on a pre-drawn heart handout. Press firmly to adhere together. A little bit of water may be added as needed.3. Teacher pokes hole through top.4. After firing, glaze with clay glazes. Limit the color choices for the little ones.5. Kindergarten Apple Trees
An apple explosion! Apple Tree Painting Step One: Pass out watercolor paper to kindergartners. Step Two: Write name on back! Step Three: Demonstrate drawing a tree with brown crayon. Add branches. Color grass with crayons. Step Four: Watercolor paint the sky with blue paints. Next Day: Step One: Sponge paint various shades of green on the branches. Step Two: Paint apples with red paint. Use your fingertips to make dots.

What are different types of lines? What is the proper way to use paints?The kids in kindergarten learned about various types of lines.
