Winter Collages

A vibrant blue background featuring an array of colorful paper snowflakes and other whimsical cut-out shapes scattered across it.

My posting is going to be limited for a little while.  I burnt four of my fingers on a hot glue gun yesterday and had to go to the urgent care.  Basically the glue dripped on four fingers on my left hand… I was sitting in the teacher’s lounge peeling the hot glue off my fingers and crying.  Definitely a shock to the system.  They are ok now… just some throbbing on and off.   I ordered low temp glue … Read more…

Charming Hand Tiles– Kindergarten Mother’s Day Gift

A collection of children's handprint art from Kindergarten is displayed on a table, each uniquely decorated with various colors and patterns, making it a delightful Mother's Day gift.

We made tiles for Mother’s Day with the Kindergartners… I know it’s early, and it’s a bit crafty, but it is something the parents love to get!  Here is what we did: 1.  I purchased a bunch of glossy floor tiles (glazed already) at our local Habitat for Humanity Re-Store (which is like a surplus/recycling store for building supplies).  Super cheap… like 25 cents each I think.  I love these tiles and they are fun to just draw on also, … Read more…

Map of My Heart– Kindergarten

A colorful child's painting depicting a heart with various scenes, including a house, bees, and the words "bees," "honey," and "me." It's a delightful Map of My Heart, reminiscent of kindergarten creativity.

The kindergartners made Maps of their Hearts!  They included things that were important in their lives.  We drew with permanent markers first, then watercolor painted them in..  I got this idea from the book “Playful Learning” which would be a great book for a classroom teacher.  It was interesting to read, but most of the activities are math, science, reading related.

Picture Frame

Colorful square mirror with a red ribbon handle, decorated with various patterns and bright colors.

Today we made picture frame ornaments with the 3rd graders.  First, I cut pieces of thin cardboard into square shapes.  Then, I cut tooling foil slightly larger than the cardboard squares.  The kids folded their tooling foil around the cardboard. Then, they used Crayola Dry Erase crayons and Sharpie markers to decorate the foil.  They left a rectangle in the middle where we will glue their class picture.  We also used Deco Art puff paint for additional details.  A ribbon … Read more…

Sock Snowman

Sock snowman with a red hat, button eyes and mouth, an orange carrot nose, and a scarf, on a dark background.

Here is an easy, no-sew snowman that my after school art class is going to make.  I’m so excited to try it with the kids and of course I will post pictures to show you their results. 1.  Gather supplies:  rubberband, fabric scissors, white tube sock, colorful infant sock, stuffing, rice, buttons, felt and ribbon. 2.   Cut off the top of the tube sock.  Experiment to see what works best for you.  3.  Drop a large handful of dry … Read more…

Halloween Wreaths

Halloween wreath with orange, black, and purple decorations, featuring ghost figures and ribbons.

For my Halloween Crafts class, I had 34 kids sign up and I split it into two days.  We had the first session yesterday!  One of the crafts we made were wreaths.  I purchased all kind of Halloween fabric, garland and trinkets and we wrapped, wove and tied them on to the wreath forms.  We used hot glue to attach the little trinkets.  K-5th grade! A student’s finished wreath All of the kids started with a wreath base and then … Read more…

Halloween Silhouettes– Kindergarten

Abstract drawing of a house and mice in black against a yellow, orange, and red background, reminiscent of Halloween silhouettes.

This project is fun for any grade, but especially the kindergartners because it is so cute to see what they come up with.  We painted broad strokes of WARM COLORS in the background with watercolor paints.  Then, using black and white pieces of paper, we cut out spooky shapes– haunted houses, bats, ghosts, etc.  We used a black marker to draw extra details.
